AI search optimization agency read: Google takes AI Mode ads global and into follow-up questions

Google said on October 28, 2026 that ads in AI Mode are expanding to 10 more countries and to follow-up questions in the US, with Gemini-written explainers drawn partly from advertisers' own sites. What an AI search optimization agency should change on your pages.

If you're weighing an AI search optimization agency, Google just changed what sits next to the organic answers you're trying to earn. On its October 28 earnings call, Alphabet said it is expanding ads in AI Mode to 10 more countries and launching multi-turn ads in the US, which can show on the follow-up questions inside an AI Mode conversation. Chief business officer Philipp Schindler said Google is "scaling high-quality ads within AI overviews in AI mode to more users and queries," as TechCrunch reported from the call.

What Google announced

The new markets are Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore, with Brazil, Mexico and the UK among those planned for Q4 2026. According to Search Engine Journal's breakdown of the call and Google's help page, existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are eligible by default, advertisers can't target AI Overviews or AI Mode on their own, and results are folded into standard campaign reports. Google also says click-through rates for sponsored and organic product listings in AI Mode are already similar, based on its own US data from August 20 to September 3, 2026.

Two other numbers from the call matter for organic work. Sundar Pichai said AI Mode queries are three times longer than traditional searches on average, and that one in five AI Mode searches globally involves voice, images or documents. And Google gave no new figure for clicks sent to websites from AI features this quarter.

What it means if you're earning organic AI answers

The detail most teams will miss is the AI explainer. Per Google's help page, as summarized by Search Engine Journal, ads in these placements can carry short text Gemini writes from the user's query, the AI response and public sources, including the advertiser's website. The advertiser can't create, edit, approve or opt out of that text. So whatever your pages state plainly about your product is what Gemini has to work with, in the ad and in the organic answer around it.

  • Write for the second question, not just the first. Longer, conversational queries and follow-ups reward pages that answer specifics like price, fit, setup and comparisons on the page itself.
  • Keep the facts on your site current and stated in plain sentences. They can now feed both organic AI answers and the Gemini-written explainer beside your ads.
  • If you run Google Ads, check which campaigns are now eligible by default, and keep negative keywords and brand exclusions up to date, since those still apply.
  • Don't judge AI Mode from campaign totals alone. AI Mode results are mixed into standard reports, so compare against Search Console and your own conversions.
  • If you sell in Canada, Australia, India or the other new markets, expect paid listings in AI Mode answers there too, and look at what the organic answer says about you first.

The same pages now do two jobs

Deeper pages matter more in this setup, not less. ChatGPTKing found that ChatGPT answers now link inside brand sites more than to their homepages, and if a tool tells you AI Mode ads cost you rankings, CheapAITraffic's guide to checking your own numbers before you pay for any fix is a sensible first step.

White hat SEO vs black hat SEO: our position

White hat SEO

White hat SEO follows search engine and AI platform guidelines: useful content, honest markup, open crawl access and links people choose to give.

Black hat SEO

Black hat SEO tries to trick ranking systems with things like hidden text, link schemes, cloaking, fake reviews or bot traffic. It can work briefly, and it can get a site penalized or quietly ignored.

To be clear: we don't do black hat. No spam, no hacks, no shortcuts that risk penalties. AI search is a young and growing field, and we make it our job to stay ahead of every new legitimate technique. Follow the blog for free tips as we find them. Read the blog →
